How does a hosting company get on the “top 10″ list? Amazingly most hosting reviews websites have one thing in common They are getting paid by hosting companies for reviews (either directly in the form of advertising or indirectly via affiliate commissions) — making their reviews extremely biased, one-sided, and highly questionable in terms of accuracy. They all promote the same group of companies. The reason that the same hosting companies always make it to the “top” of the hosting comparison charts is because those companies, one way or another, pay to be listed there. These hosts include Host Monster, Blue Host, Lunar Pages, IX Webhosting, InMotionHosting, StartLogic, Host Pappa, Pow Web, etc. It’s a well-known fact web hosting companies running their affiliate programs through Commission Junction offer among the highest affiliate commissions in the hosting industry. Thus “clever” PPC (pay per click) affiliate marketers decided: why not create websites with “top web hosting companies” lists and list these companies as “top”? Hosting company reviews seldom base their “rating” on their quality of service (although many claim to). Instead, most of them rate a webhost on the *size* of the affiliate commission. @94dgrif Why would an affiliate not be biased? For that matter when you promote your virus program do you compare it to others? I actually have, and I have had better results from nod32, but then again AVG is better then Norton. Most host affiliates do not even try the hosts they recommend. One example is a affiliate I did a post on recently called whybluehost, who are not even hosted on bluehost but hostgator servers. Big difference between promoting what use and what you don’t use.
@reviewsexposed I agree with you that a lot of list sites are biased, and I’d probably go as far as to say that most are. But I don’t believe that being an affiliate of a company in the list is evidence of bias. In the same way I recommend AVG to everyone that needs an anti-virus program because it’s my personal favorite. I became an affiliate of AVG so that if people follow my advice I get a commission.
@94dgrif First I ask you what defines a scam? Perhaps something along the lines of fabricating information to lead to high payout, could that be a scam? Because that is what these sites are doing. Yes they could run legitimately with affiliate links, but that is not how these companies work. They work on a high affiliate payout, if you don’t believe me go to these “top” hosts and look at their affiliate programs. Some run secondary affiliate programs with companies like cj.com.
You may or may not be right about the scam, I don’t know. But think of it like this. If you ran a site that listed the best host sites with links to each, wouldn’t you join the affiliation with every site on that list? You could run the list 100% genuinely, and still accept the click-through revenue from whichever link a user visited. I know I would. The incriminating evidence would be if they were Only affiliated with the top few.
@llwyth The problem is not so much that they are affiliates, its the pretending to review and give a positive spin to mislead people into believing they are getting a good deal. The other problem is that more focus in spending on affiliates and advertising then actual spending on customer care.
@bearwoodbrown Those “awards” are nothing more then affiliates, there not real companies. They award whomever pays the most on commissions. They don’t bother to try the hosts to create real reviews.
@sgtpete1 I have not done any research on hostmonster yet, but I can tell you that I would not go to hostgator since they have a extremely high affiliate payout. Plust hostgator at this time is number 5 on webhostingstuff’s top 25 list.
@alexandrubalaci33 Just host is number 2 on webhostingstuff’s top 25, they have a a really huge affiliate payout. I am sorry but they use fake reviews. I am happy your having no problems at this time. But if I were you once the problems start happening I would migrate to a host that does not use fake reviews and does not pay out extremely high payments to affiliates.
@heightboosting inmotion is number 6 on webhostingstuff’s top 25 list, so I have to say there not a company to consider, especially since they have a over the top affiliate payout. I will actually doing a blog post about them tomorrow.

In my opinion Just host is the best web hosting company. I don’t have any problems with them. and the live support is good when you need answer for your problems or your qestions
I made the mistake of going with Dreamhost, and they’ve been down 3 times in the last month, and for 4 hours today, which is why I’m here looking for a new site.
@BarbieRetiree CNET is a great source for tech information and articles, but beware of their forums. They are poorly moderated and moderators seldom respond when inaccurate or flame/hate speech is reported nor do they seem proactive when it comes to removing obviously false posts.
Anyone can post a review on CNET, but there is very little oversight. Get your tech info from CNET, but if you want honest hosting reviews CNET is not the place (in my opinion).
I want to complain this company call Webshaper or neowave who sells shopping cart. Their shopping cart is so cheapskate.
The functionality of their cart is not user-friendly.
Certain common features are missing. When I ask them about it, they said is in future enhancement plans.
Any small inquiries or favor from their service, they will ask you to upgrade to more expensive package.

and Rip-Offs} Acai Supplements and Other “Free” Trial
Offers – Ads offering trial offers for teeth whiteners, acai
anti-aging pills and other miracle supplements blanket the Internet,
including trusted Web sites of national news organizations. The
marketing campaigns often falsely claimed an endorsement by Oprah,
Rachel Ray and Doctor Oz. Thousands of consumers complained to BBB
that the free trial actually cost them as much as hundreds of
dollars, month after month.
2.Scams and Rip-Offs}
Stimulus/Government Grant Scams – Even before President Obama
announced the stimulus plan in February, scammers had already set up
schemes for misleading consumers and small business owners into
thinking they could get a piece of the pie. Offers for worthless
assistance and advice on how to get government grants bombarded
consumers online, over the phone and via mail and e-mail.
3.Scams and Rip-Offs} Robocalls
– Owning a cell phone or having their phone number on the
do-not-call list did not help thousands of people across the US put
a stop to harassing automated telemarketing calls in 2009. The
robocalls often claimed that their auto warranty was about to
expire—which wasn’t true—or offered help in reducing their interest
rate on their credit card. The prevalence of robocalls violating
federal telemarketing laws prompted the FTC to increase restrictions
on the practice in 2009.

Lottery/Sweepstakes Scam – The victim receives a letter in the mail
pretending to be from Reader’s Digest, Publisher’s Clearing House or
a phony foreign lottery claiming that he or she has won millions.
The letter comes with a check that represents only a portion of the
total winnings. In order to get the rest, the victim has to deposit
the check and then wire hundreds of dollars back to the scammers
supposedly to cover taxes or some other bogus fee. The victim wires
the money, but the prize never arrives.

Scams –Scams targeting job hunters vary and include attempts to gain
access to personal information such as bank account or social
security numbers and requirements to pay a fee in order to even be
considered for the job. Another common scam was reported to BBB by
job hunters who were told by a prospective employer that they had to
check their credit report before being considered for a job. The job
offer is actually a marketing ploy for online credit monitoring that
costs the victim every month until they cancel.

Work from Home Scam – Countless Web sites cropped up in 2009 that
claimed you could learn how to make money from home using Google or
Twitter and offered a free trial of learning materials. The Web
sites often included the Google or Twitter moniker and logo. As a
result, many people who complained to BBB thought they were getting
a job with Google or Twitter when in, fact, they were being lured
into another misleading free-trial offer and were billed every month
for the materials and other mystery charges that added up to
hundreds of dollars.

Foreclosure Rescue/Debt Assistance – Many families are struggling in
the current economy and hucksters are offering to help them save
their house from foreclosure or help them get out of credit card
debt. Unfortunately, victims are paying hundreds of dollars up front
for the assistance they desperately need but ultimately never
receive.
8.Scams and Rip-Offs} Mystery
Shopping – Consumers across the country thought that they could make
some extra money by becoming a secret shopper and evaluating the
customer service of various stores. The victim is asked to evaluate
their shopping experience at a few stores as well as a money wiring
service such as Western Union or MoneyGram by wiring money back to
the scammers. A seemingly real looking check is supposed to cover
the costs, but ends up being a fake. The victim is out hundreds, if
not thousands, of dollars.
9.Scams and Rip-Offs}
Over-Payment Scams – Over-payment scams typically target small
business owners, landlords or individuals with rooms to rent and
sellers on classifieds or sites like Craigslist. Typically the
scammer pretends to be a customer, possible renter or interested
buyer, respectively. The victim receives a check for more than the
amount requested. The scammers then ask the victim to deposit the
check and wire the extra amount elsewhere, such as to a shipping
company. Ultimately though, the check is fake and the victim is
really wiring money back to the scammers.

e-mails/H1N1 spam – A perennial problem, phishing e-mails pop up in
inboxes and can take various forms such as appearing to be from a
business, a government agency or official or even a friend. Whatever
the setup, the goal of any phishing e-mail is the same: to trick
victims into divulging sensitive financial information or to infect
the victim’s computer with viruses and malware. In addition to
phishing e-mails, spam e-mail selling wares to prevent the spread of
the H1N1 virus were particularly rampant in 2009.

Ive been using Fat Cow and it seeems to be pretty good ,they seem to be winning awards , and the affilate program is pretty well paid
