Question by mac: I was targeted by a scam to send you money for an item I had for sale in our local paper.?
The “scam” was that he would send me a check for much more than it was worth and expect me to cash his check and send him the difference via western union……I played him to try to catch him….and this is more informative than a question- if you find yourself in this situation- say yes, go ahead and send the check- call your local State Police Department, they will be able to decipher his web id address- mine was in AFRICA and then you file an IC3 complaint form- which allows everyone on the internet to know of this scam ………anyother takers out there? even though I tried to get the police to catch him at his pick up site- fictitious address- but the police say they go to Walmart’s to pick up the western unions under these fictitious names…………..anyone else??? I’d like to get as much info out there for people so they can SEE FOR THEMSELVES THE SCAMS–mine was through a local paper shop ad I placed.
BTW, I sent him an email thanking him for his ip address- told him to be scared to go to WU to get all the other checks from people since the state police have his fictitious name for the pick ups in all 50 states- and that I hope I get to see him in court….

Best answer:

Answer by gorgon medici TR
Tell you what. I will send you a check for $ 1,000. You cash it and send me back $ 500 by Western Union. You keep $ 500 for your trouble.

This is a Very Good Deal.

Now, after hearing about my Very GOOD Deal, why in hell would anyone want to buy your $ 5 trinket by sending you a check for $ 50 so you could send back $ 45? Isn’t this a Very Stupid Thing? I think so. Yet thousands of peole fall for it every year.

What I do if they want to send me a check is I give them my name as a local cop and my address is the local police station. Works for me.

Give your answer to this question below!

I ANSWERED THIS POSTING ON GUMTREE AND GOT A THIS REPLY:

I’m happy to hear from you. I am in Chicago . US and I need a nanny or babysitter to take care our kids when my wife is visiting London on a 6-8weeks holiday. I need a well behaved, loyal and competent nanny. My wife will be in town for 6-8weeks on vacation, she will be going out three or four times a week and she will be spending at least 3 hours for shopping or sightseeing. Her arrival date should be April 5th, I am offering you £450 weekly and you will make yourself available for 3 or 4 times a week to her schedule for 3 or 4 hours each day making a minimum of 12 hours weekly.
I’d also like to secure your service and be sure that you will be available for the duration of time in which your service is needed.
My client in Ireland will send you a payment covering the First 2 weeks as a form of deposit, and when my wife arrives, she will start paying you in cash after the first 2weeks.
Kindly get back to me with the following details of yours if you will be willing to occupy this position;
Full Name, Address, City/State,Zip Code, Phone number,
A pay cheque will be forwarded to you as soon as possible; I will appreciate a quick response from you. Note that, this position is temporary and it will last for a maximum of 8weeks.

THEN THERE FEW VERY “NORMAL” AND CONVINCING EMAILS FROM HIM IN BETWEEN… UNTIL I RECEIVED THIS ONE.

Thanks for your continuous e-mail, we are happy that we are able to secure your service prior to my wife’s arrival.
My client has posted the check as promised, but there seems to be a little problem which I think we can handle with care.
After speaking to my client, I was made to understand that the secretary in charge made out a check of £2,900 instead of £900, claiming that was what I instructed.
The payment has already been posted before I was informed about the minor error, but I wouldn’t want any delay regarding the payment due to the fact that my wife’s arrival date is closing in.
The pay cheque is also a Bankers cheque (certified); rectifying it will take some days. What you have to do is; when you receive this cheque, take it to your Bank and cash it, after you have successfully cashed the cheque, deducted your two weeks wages which is £900. The excess fund on the pay cheque must be transferred to my client via Western Union without any form of delay. Or I’ll ask my client if you can give it to my wife when she arrives. Kindly let me know when you have the pay cheque in your possession. You should receive it within the next 2days. Please reply to this e-mail as it’s contents are quite important.

SO I DID REPLY SAYING:

Please do not worry, I will not cash the cheque. I am happy to wait for a cheque with the right amount on it and or I can sort it out with your wife when she arrives, I can give the cheque to her and she can pay by cash. Rest assured, everything will be as you wanted, I have made a commitment to you and I will definitely work for you. Look forward hearing from you. Many thanks.

THIS WAS CLEARLY A SCAM, “THE FAMILY” NEVER WROTE BACK TO ME AGAIN… THESE EMAILS WERE FROM A YAHOO ADDRESS AND I FOUND SCAM WARNINGS WITH THIS PERSON´S NAME FROM THE INTERNET.

Cheque overpayment scams

This could be a response to your ad or online auction posting, offering to pay with a cheque. At the last minute, the buyer comes up with a reason for writing the cheque for more than the original price, and asks you to transfer back the difference after you deposit the cheque.

If you deposit the cheque, you lose. Typically, the cheques are counterfeit, but they’re good enough to fool bank staff – when they bounce, you are liable for the entire amount.

Don’t accept a cheque for more than your selling price, no matter how tempting the plea or convincing the story. Ask the buyer to write the cheque for the purchase price. If the buyer sends the incorrect amount, return the cheque. Don’t send the goods.

Question by fitzjust: Does this prove swisscash is a scam?
YES IT DOES. You better get your money out fast, if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities have started a crackdown on cyber scams, blocking access to six illegal investment websites and raiding the offices of an Internet firm in the Klang Valley.

In a press statement released yesterday, the Securities Commission said the six websites were www.abbfund.com or www.abfund.us, www.cfdventure.com, www.swedenfund.com, www.uebond.com, www.esuissefund.com or www.efmf.com.pa and www.ecashfinance.com.

“SC will continue to work with Bank Negara, the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia to track, identify and block access to websites promoting investment scams.

“It will take all measures to fight illegal investment activities, including taking enforcement action against operators and agents of illegal investment websites,” the statement said.

In the next few months, more scam websites will be blocked. The SC has identified some 60 websites that are involved in illegal cyber investments.

Bank Negara and the SC have begun joint operations with the police in tracking down such illegal e-investment activities.

On Monday, a raid was conducted on several AB Fund offices in the Klang Valley for suspected illegal deposit-taking and investment activities.

It was learnt that documents, equipment and servers were among the items confiscated from the premises, while statements were also taken from its employees.

An illegal deposit-taking operator can be jailed up to 10 years or fined RM10mil, or both, the statement said.

Recently, thousands of Malaysians were believed to have lost several million ringgit in an “investment” scheme known as buy-e-barrel, which closed down abruptly.

The scheme offered daily interest of between 2% and 3% for an investment of between US$ 100 (RM345) and US$ 2,000 (RM6,900).

Last year, two Datuks and six others were placed under remand to aid in investigations into a get-rich-quick scheme that allegedly promised “huge returns for a minimum investment”.

The alleged scam, known as SwissCash or Swiss Mutual Fund, claimed that investors’ funds were channelled to business activities ranging from oil exploration to shipping and agriculture in the Caribbean.

Investors were required to pay a registration fee of US$ 30 (RM103.50) to join the scheme, which allegedly offered huge returns for a minimum investment of US$ 100 .

The public are advised to refer to the SC’s Frequently Asked Questions: “Do Not Invest in Illegal Internet Investment Schemes” available at www.sc.com.my

Investors who are still participating in such illegal investment schemes via the Internet have been reminded to withdraw their investments and terminate their accounts immediately as they would not be able to access their accounts once the websites are blocked.

I love to write and I have a wide variety of interests, which I thought I might parlay into a way to make a few bucks by blogging, and I need to know some reputable sites that actually pay me for the service. Can you reccomend at least 3 reputable sites I can post on?

Answer by David
I have bad news.
Very few online jobs of any kind are legit.
If you are in fact a good writer perhaps there is a small independent newspaper near you that could use your talents.
Good luck.
