Question by oakviewfarm1@verizon.net: Who do I report fraud mail to, trying to get into my bank and private accounts via myemail,tryingtotakeadvanta
I would like to report email “scams” and get these people in trouble with the law. and off the webb , Thank You

Best answer:

Answer by depym
If you use yahoo then -
1.Open your mail look at the bottom right hand where you will see full headers.
2.Copy the full headers and then Press forward.
3. After the mail opens in forward paste the full headers.
4. Next open a new link in another tab for ip address finder.I find http://lacnic.net/cgi-bin/lacnic/whois? good as it gives worldwide addresses. Lacnic is for South America, Arin for North America,Apnic for Asia Pacific region ,AfriNIC for Africa and Ripe for Europe/Russia.
5. Next in the from field of the full headers you will find the IP Address of the sender.Copy and Paste it in the field next to search and press search.
6. Under the search findings you will find the address of the internet provider and also the Report Spam. Usually it is abuse@……..com or net.
7. Copy and paste this link in the ‘To ‘ field. Also check the link in the email msg of the spammer. Sometimes they will give an address to write to. If it is yahoo then you can also send the same to abuse@yahoo.com or abuse @ google/gmail, abuse@msn/hotmail etc
You will get a reply that action has been taken against the sender.
Sometimes spammers use ip addresses which are from China or anywhere in the world with no Report Spam. Then I just click Spam and dont waste time in trying to find out the ip addresses.
All mailboxes have a full header option where the the ip address is shown.
You can send them back a msg without using your mail address. This site is called Spam It Back. Get spammers back, and send your own message once, a thousand times, … The more people using this software, the more effective it is in stopping spam. …www.spamitback.com/ -

UK Background Checks Booming, Say UK Private Investigators

London Investigators See Significant Rise in Scams

U.K. based private investigators have reported a sharp increase in online fraud and internet scams for 2010. Investigators say requests for UK background checks are nearly double the level of 2009, and that the economic troubles worldwide appear to be fueling the trend. Industry insiders say it is common for fraud and scam activity to increase during a recession, but there are other factors at play as well. London private investigators say the growing trend in online dating and social networking sites has also supported the rise in internet fraud, business and romance scams, advance fee fraud, and false identity cases worldwide.

Demographics for the U.K. has changed dramatically, as the nation struggles with ongoing illegal immigration and continues to be overwhelmed with persons of non-European origin. This new face of the United Kingdom has imported more than just different faces. Investigators say that many Nigerian scams are now carried out from the U.K. by Nigerians who are often in the country illegally. And the list goes on. International private investigators with operations in London, such as Wymoo® International, say that background check, due diligence and international private investigation cases are booming largely in part to the trend in globalization, and the migration of people and business across borders. There is also a trust factor. People from the developing world are cashing in on the trust of people from the developed world. Verifying people, relationships and backgrounds is now an essential step to avoid fraud and scams, say investigators.

Growth projections for the private investigation and background check industry in the U.K. is expected to remain stable as the economy recovers. Investigators expect to see some decrease in the scam and fraud levels as economies recover, when and if the recovery comes. In the meantime, insiders say an international background check is a wise insurance policy for those with relationships, business deals, and investments abroad. The alternative, private investigators say, can far exceed the cost and trouble of a background check or due diligence case

Question by betsgift2u: How (other than changing to “private”) can I stop people from sending “spam” to my 360 mailbox?
I have mail from “national o” saying I won a lottery that “my yahoo” entered me into. This is fraud and I know it but I do not want to have to keep my 360 private to stop it.

Best answer:

Answer by PiggiePants
That’s the problem with spam, it is almost impossible to stop people from sending it. You can block the individual sender, but spammers change address frequently, and that probably won’t work very long. You should report the message to Yahoo so they can take action if possible.

Best answer:

Answer by Ralphy
They are pretty simple. You get investors to give you money and claim that you are investing it. You might guarantee really good returns (12% or so in this market). Instead of actually investing you just pay your investors 12% per year and pocket the rest. Before you run out of money, you attract more and more investors and keep paying people off with the new money that has been “invested” with you. Eventually, the economy goes south and your investors decide to withdraw their money. Unfortunately, you don’t actually have their money anymore…which si what happened to Madoff.

Lagos is the home for most Nigeria private investigators and there are a few options available for those abroad who have private investigation needs in Nigeria. Lagos is a large and major African city with significant international business activity. In addition to the need for business background checks and due diligence, there is also the need to screen personal relationships.

Relationships, business or personal, initiated over the internet are very susceptible to manipulation and fraud. For those who think it can’t happen to them should reconsider. Nigerian scammers have evolved, and techniques used can be quite sophisticated. Anyone can be a victim of scam or fraud.

Industry observers report that the Lagos, Nigeria background check business is booming, with increased demand from international clients from all over the world. When choosing a private detective or investigator in Nigeria, we recommend using the services of a firm based outside of Nigeria, but with field investigators and operations in Nigeria. One such firm, based in the U.S. but with investigators and agents in Lagos is Wymoo International. Choosing a Western company usually ensures a higher level of client service, trust and accountability.

The global recession has hit Nigeria even harder than developed nations. As a result, the scammers are working over-time, and as more people look for romance and business opportunity, the scam operations in Nigeria should continue to grow.

There are plenty of legitimate businesses and individuals in Nigeria initiating relationships via the internet. However, due to the high risk of fraud, it’s important to be safe. Get a professional background check prior to engaging in any relationhips involving West Africa nations, especially Nigeria, or Ghana.

Towards the end of every school year, most non-profit organizations hold their Awards Banquets where worthy students are honored with various scholarships. Often, the names of recipients appear in the newspapers as an acknowledgment of all their hard work and dedication. Since the awarding organization is primarily giving the money to be used for the student’s education, they simply ask the family where the student will be attending, and parents, unaware of the pitfall, tell them. Virtually all such organizations are responsible for the fatal error of making the check payable to the student AND the college. So sets the stage for the billion dollar scholarship rip-off.

No, congratulations are not in order. In fact, pity the poor student who dedicated several years of blood, sweat and tears to the Red Cross, YMCA, Kiwanis, Rotary, or other such non-profit organization, only to see all of their well deserved scholarship money evaporate into thin air and wind up in the “scholarship fund” of their college of choice instead of their own financial aid packages.

Most schools send out their financial aid offers between January and April, with a May 1st decision date. As most colleges consider private scholarship awards a resource to help pay for a student’s education, they reduce their share of the student’s financial aid package dollar for dollar, and this is where the problem lies.

What a kick in the teeth it is for a family to read a revised award letter showing that the school’s portion of the financial aid was reduced by the amount of the private scholarship the student earned! The bad news is usually listed on the award letter as private scholarship, outside aid, or very often as other. Here’s a typical before and after scenario:

Before Receiving a Private Scholarship

$45,000 – Cost of Attendance (COA = tuition, fees, room & board, books, etc.)

$10,000 – Expected Family Contribution (EFC)*

$35,000 – Financial Need (FN = the maximum amount of aid a family will qualify for)

* EFC = the minimum the federal gov’t determines a family will pay at any college

We’ll assume the student qualifies for the following aid:

$ 3,500 – Stafford Loan

$ 4,000 – Perkins Loan

$ 2,500 – Federal work-study award

$ 3,000 – State grant

$22,000 – College scholarships, grants, tuition waivers, etc.

$35,000 – Total

The student will qualify for a maximum of $22,000/yr in financial aid from the college.

After Receiving a Private Scholarship:

$45,000 – Cost of Attendance (COA)

$10,000 – Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

$35,000 – Financial Need

The student qualifies for the following aid:

$ 3,500 – Stafford Loan

$ 4,000 – Perkins Loan

$ 2,500 – Federal work-study award

$ 3,000 – State grants, etc.

$10,000 – Private Scholarship

$12,000 – College scholarships, grants, tuition waivers, etc.

$35,000 – Total

While the student still qualifies for a maximum of $22,000/yr in financial aid from the college, the private scholarship has now become a bonus for the school, not the student. All of the student’s hard work actually saves the college money, and the benefit to the student is reduced to nothing!

It should be no great surprise to anyone that our greedy institutions of higher learning laid the groundwork for this clever thievery months in advance. Students who apply to any of the 225 elite private and state colleges that require the CSS Financial Aid Profile (FAP) are asked to indicate whether they expect to be scholarship recipients. Section SR, Question SR-150 asks for the dollar amount anticipated from student resources for school year 2007-2008, such as “grants, scholarships and fellowships,” and they must be listed individually in Section ES.

The majority of schools that only require the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), simply send out a questionnaire asking about private scholarships. They are less devious, but just as deft.

Who could imagine in their wildest dreams that colleges would stoop so low and play so dirty? Truth be told – and have no doubt about it – it’s all about the money. Every year there are billions of dollars awarded in private scholarships, and the beneficiaries of all the hard work that earned them is none other than our poor, starving institutions of higher learning, enriching their billion dollar endowment funds at the expense of their hard working, deserving students.

The best way for a family to avoid the injustice is to personally discuss this sordid state of affairs with the scholarship committee either at the time of application or well in advance of their award announcements. In that way, the check can be made payable to the parents instead of the student! If that fails, parents should ask them to postpone sending the check until after the student has enrolled.

As a last resort, have the parents call the college financial aid administrator, explain the situation, and kindly ask (grovel if you must), that because of all their hard work, the student is really entitled to the money and the college should not penalize them by reducing their aid by the amount of the scholarship. If they take a hard line, try to negotiate some of the money back into the student’s pocket, because half a loaf is better than none. Never lose sight of the fact that financial aid is a commodity, and like all commodities, it is negotiable!
