This and an example of Internet Dating Scams. twitter.com He has not been convicted of any of the offenses at this time. As of today the police have not found him but are still looking for him. Police are warning people using online dating sites to be careful about whom they’re meeting and to meet in public places until they get to know the other person. Last month a new Internet Dating Safety Act came into effect in New York State, which among …

Question by StephenWeinstein: If I provide a credit card number only “to prevent fraud” and am charged anyway, what happens? (see details)?
Marketsplash (http://www.marketsplash.com/res/business-cards-search.html?eprcd=MS11100FreeCards ) advertises “Get 100 Free Business Cards – 100% Free
“There are no processing or shipping fees. You’ll receive 100 full color, professionally printed business cards delivered to your door in 7 business days or less. Offer limited to one free order per address or user
” To prevent fraud, a credit card is required to order the free business cards. Your card will be authorized but not charged ”

If my card is charged anyway, would I be able to dispute that charge?

I was previously told by Discover Card (which I will not be using for this transaction) that if I give a merchant my card number for any reason, I am authorizing them to charge my card something and that I can dispute a charge only either (a) I did not give the merchant my card number or (b) I authorized a charge in a different amount.

If I provide the merchant with my card number (for a different card, not Discover) only “To prevent fraud” and they said my “card will be authorized but not charged “, am I authorizing them to charge the card? If they do, can I dispute it?
I am voting for “none of these”, because the only answer did not answer the question.

By the way, the answer from Chase (the bank) is:

“You can dispute the charge once the charge appears on your credit card account. We must hear from you no later than 60 days from the time we send you the first statement on which the charge appears.”

Best answer:

Answer by †Ask Me Anything†
I wouldn’t give this firm my credit card number. They are going to charge you for something down the road..there will be some small print saying you are signing up for some recurring membership or promotional thing….also, how much are they going to authorize? $ 50? $ 100? Is it really worth the *free* business cards you would be getting?

Why not just go to Office Depot and order business cards. I bet you will get charged for something you don’t want if you give your number to these people.

Free is never really free.

Give your answer to this question below!
