Question by : Is the John Robert Powers Agency all a big “Scam”?
I’ve just returned from an audition from the JRP agency a few hours ago, and since I was all hyped up and excited, I decided to do a quick google search on it.

The results were not so good.

Turns out, there have been a bus-load of complaints and accusations about this school/agency to be all a big scam. Angry mothers have posted rants on several scam-busting websites claming that the JRP held dishonest try-outs and then demanded high prices for admittance into their programs, some ranging from just a few hundred to a heart-stopping $ 10,000.

The JRP offers classes and chances to meet with scouters twice a month to those who are accepted into their “prestigous” school. These classes include singing, dancing, acting, and modeling. I was taken into a room for a private interview (in which they didn’t even close the door), and asked to sing for a whopping 10 seconds. Literally. The interviewer, which was a woman named Amanda Carson, claimed that she did not want to hear anyone preform for longer than 10 seconds since she had “already auditioned over 200 people today and did not want to waste her time with people who only THINK they can sing”. Then she asked about three questions, and said that I will have a callback the following afternoon.

I’m quite upset about this new discovery since I had been all hopeful and enthusiastic about this “opportunity”, but now these feelings are being swayed. If anyone has had any genuine, helpful experience and wouldn’t mind to share, I would really appreciate the help.

Btw; I heard their ad on 106.1 BLI, which is a popular radio station in my area. I live in Long Island, New York. The JRP Headquarters is on 1400 Old Country Rd., Westbury, NY.

Thanks in advance.

Best answer:

Answer by Valerie
idk if its a big scam but its not worth going to that school, i auditioned for it 5 years ago and i got a callback saying that ive been accepted and so i decided to join the school but it was really expensive. my dad payed 8,000 for 5 years and like i said, it’s not worth it.
