The amount of money lost through online fraud in Australia and New Zealand's not-for-profit sector is at an all-time high, a report claims. More Singaporeans were duped by internet love scams and lottery or kidnap phone scams last year, according to the police. Internet scams have increased in Singapore as consumers in the tech-savvy city-state increasingly turn to online shopping, but the overall crime rate fell to a 20-year low, police said Tuesday. “You can’t win if you don’t play” is often used to get lottery hopefuls to drop a dollar with the hope and dream of winning millions. Police are urging people to be careful with their money and personal details due to a number of overseas scams. Leading free email providers like Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are teaming up in an effort to prevent "phishing" scams. Some consumers get confused and shell out money thinking they're getting the real app, when they're actually buying a counterfeit.
